Who was Humphreys?

Albert E. Humphreys bought the Grant Mansion in 1911. A famed industrialist, he was most noted for opening up the iron ore fields of Minnesota.

He later became involved in coal and oil, especially in Texas and Wyoming (he was a primary figure in the Teapot Dome Scandal of the 1920s during the Harding administration and is thought to have committed suicide due to his involvement; he died in the home on the third floor).

Ira Humphreys, one of his sons, inherited the home after the 1940s and the family remained there until donating it to the state of Colorado in 1976.
