Denver Discovery Camp
is the chance for you and your students to get out of the classroom and into the city and learning first hand all about Denver’s fascinating history …

Denver Discovery Camp operates in tandem with the traditional and continuous school year programs, and focuses on the most historic names, faces and places of Denver’s history.

When you participate in this history camp, you will benefit from:

  • pre and post-materials for your students
    • lesson plans and prep materials
    • "souvenir" newspaper edition filled with your students' writings and photography
    • post-Camp test covering Denver Discovery Camp activities
  • activity that meets the Colorado Model Content Standards
  • seamless integration with classroom learning

We'll start (and end) at the Byers-Evans House, where, on the second day, students will experience a "Morning in the Past".

The Four Mile House on the tour for the first day. This will give the students a chance to taste frontier life: making butter, feeding the livestock, doing laundry by hand - everything a child might have done in the 1860's.

Students chaperones and teachers will spend the night camping at the Grant-Humphreys Mansion in Capitol Hill.

The State Capitol was completed in 1908. The land was donated by Henry Brown (of Brown Palace fame). He insisted on a sunset view which is why the rest of the city streets are not aligned with the downtown streets.
